Arcology

Page history last edited by aaron 2 yrs ago

An arcology is a multipurpose structure that is home and production unit for a community.  It can house and sustain a large quantity of myn.  Acting as self-contained cities, an arcology gives a place to eat, be safe and work together.  They may exist on many mediums: sand, soil, rock, water, air or space.  The structural form they take differs by medium.

  • Ground Arcologies are often in basic geometrical shapes meant to maximize surface area.  The outer layers are used for food production and recreation, and the inner layers house machinery and infrastructure.  A tetrahedron with alternating diamonds is a favoured shape in their design.  Some trees and fungi have been nurtured to aid in the construction of small arcologies.
  • Water Arcologies are of three types: floating, reef and deep vent.  This medium has the advantage of providing tides near the surface, and geothermal heat in the depths.  Floating arcologies are myn-made islands, often trade ports or diving stations.  Reef arcologies are much more loosely connected, with living walls and tubes between modules.  Deep vent arcologies are not well known, the people who are in the deep prefer to stay there, finding the outer world too busy.  The people from the deeps have many mineral resources to trade but a passion for their history and philosophy.
  • Aircologies, also known as flying cities are some of the largest skyships, their size becoming a small town, suspended on its accumulation of clouds.
  • Space arcologies are a later invention.  Some of the earliest versions involved aircologies suspended by orbital tethers.

Myn refers to any sentient being on the planet of Shashnia, either the main humanoid species or one of the other intelligent animal races. See http://shashnia.pbwiki.com/Myn for the general description, and http://shashnia.pbwiki.com/Shashnimyn for the main humanoid species.
