Careers

Page history last edited by 1nfinitezer0 2 yrs ago

As a way to sustain the communities, each player is needed to adopt a career (or at least pay dues if they are a citizen who works outside the traditional situations).

These careers typically revolve around one of the 6 basic skillsets: SAPTIS. Careers offer players the opportunity to earn points, skills and money.

Tasks available for each career can be either those which are created by the player or those requested by the community. Requests by the community are either from other players, or from the community tech-tree.

The community as a whole acts as an upgrading techtree unit. e.g. the amounts of crops coming in begin to need a granary, so a call for labourers to work is posted to the board until the number of units are fulfilled. If there are not sufficient materials in the community possession, those are requested too. Fulfilling requests is like paying taxes. A certain amount of work is necessary in order to get the free stuff from the community, and after that, everyone is paid profits according to their work.

Communities can also register alert requests, which usually take the form of combat or emergencies. These alerts notify the players immediately when they log in. They could be to put out a fire, divert flooding, stop an invasion by critters or whatever.

Chatters are a social task where the player must actively seek out requests to communicate with other players or NPCs. They earn a standard set of points based upon accepting tasks, and can have these augmented by the requesting players votes.

These tasks can take the form of simple company, or asking for more specific skills like comedy, poetry, inspiration, or whatever. The tasks are posted to the town board with as much information as the requesting player wants to give. If they request high-level players specifically, these requests might require an investment of points, but the goal of this system is to encourage friendly and constructive social interaction while rewarding both parties. Lower level requests are free to ensure a constant supply. NPC dialogues are another option if there are no player requests; the social chatters can gain points by contributing to the NPC conversation trees.
