Dream realm

Page history last edited by 1nfinite zer0 12 years, 5 months ago

The Dream realm is where you go when you are asleep.  It is a land of impermanence and hyperreality.  The Shashnimyn are linked psychically through dreams, and can seek out ancestors and answers, even those from within.  Scholars debate the exact nature of dreams, as they still cannot be perceived without being part of the dreams themselves.  This means that all infiltrators to your dreams are on your dream realm territory, unless you fall into travelling to the realms they control.  We feel we have control over the dream realm, but there is always an amount of chaos and uncertainty.  The degree of control is based upon the experience of the dreamer.  Even the best dream scholar mages have travelled far into realms beyond their control to seek the nature of what dreaming is.  It is strong in magic, but does not need the same skills that waking mages use.  The most popular theory is that Dreams are echoes of the infinite quantum realities in the multiverse. In short, everything that can exist, does exist somewhere-when in the multiverse, and dreams offer perception of those realities, even if they are fleeting or unstable.  But, since Dreams are so dependent upon the observer, the other realities can only be seen through the lens of our perceptual understandings.  Things with no form or colour are forced into symbols that we can relate to, until they break our mental map of that symbol and transform.

    • False awakenings

Players get a mirrored set of action points to their physical selves to use in the dream realm.  There, they can create mini adventure areas, customize their home, pick costumes and interact with others on the meta-gaming level.  The dream realm is hosted on the player's machine itself, and is completely malleable.  The cheat protection should be nearly non-existent, because it would encourage development through transparency.  They can host a server of their dream realm and invite other players.  They can share their own built adventures, discuss their strategy for an upcoming event or whatever they want.  It sits out of time so it can be accessed at any time through the menu (even though day time will still pass if their character is active).

Confronting negative emotions

What are the origins of bad feelings?  Are they actually a part of you?  Sure, things will happen in life that cause emotions to stir up in you, this is unavoidable.  But the reaction to them is our choice.  Is it best to react negatively and perpetuate these emotions, or to recognize them when they appear and try to still them?

This is a theme that often occurs in the Dream realm.  Because it is a land of your subconscious, it contains the influences of your person.  Some dream characters will try to trick you by provoking you to react to negative emotions.  If these reactions are prolonged they can become powerful monsters in your realm that you will soon be running from.  How can they be defeated?  This is what you must choose.

The type of monster can be generated by personifications of negative emotions that are plaguing you in real life.  What is something that seems to be controlling you, something that you want to change but feel powerless about?  These things that we worry about are some of the first to make it into our dreams.

Discussion/Notes

mulitple levels.  it has the private realm, that realm that you want to build in your dreams, whatever you desire, it is there.
another deeper level is hearing what is happening in other universes.
even deeper still is when you come into a character state in an alternate dimension.  it is more like active perception than inhabiting.  the mind in very advanced space can hear your suggestions, but still keeps their own volition.

the dream walk is a multi part journey.  you must first learn to remember your dreams before you can travel in them.  having control of your personality comes not to the passive dreamer.  there is a feeling that you are more present in any dream, we say it feels more real than a typical dream.

however, there are stages of perception before lucid dreaming.  lucid dreaming is awakening to a power of the unlimited like never before.  it is ecstacy, it is complete knowledge of your existence and that it can be molded by you.

are the gods dreaming of us?
