The Gumar are a space-faring species that separated from the Shashnimyn soon after the system phase of stellar colonization. Their name means "Better" as they feel they improved upon the basic Shashnimyn evolution through their use of advanced technology and science rather than reliance on magic. Historically, this culture was called the Mecenasnuro and lived in exile on the island of Mecena. This term is no longer used, as over time it became perjorative. The name of Gumar was coined when they fought for independance, but did not become a separate species until later generations of space travel.
The Gumar have an incredible aptitude for science and technology. The entire culture revolves around the ability to think and tinker, gaining status and recognition through invention and achievement. As such, their political system is merit based, on science, where gifted individuals are given the responsibility to govern, but also assigned many advisors by which they can run complex simulations and calculations. The ideas of the talented are carried out by a slew of gifted technologists and political scientists. The culture is blindingly efficient.
Physically, the Gumar are not as blessed. When still residents of Shashnia, their preference for technology over harmonious living lead them to medicine and cybernetics to counter disease and prolong life. On the Mainlands, Shashnimyn continued to die and evolve. The evolution of the Gumar left the chaotic domain of the biological and was put into the hands of their scientists. In the farfuture, Gumar individuals are not able to survive without complex cybernetic and bionic maintenance, and the energetic requirements of this are substantial.
Fight for Independence
As the Shashnian world population became capable of space travel, the Mecenasnuro had largely used up all resources available to them. Their island had become a great hive city, spanning up many stories into the sky, and deep within the ground. Top floors were terraced hydropnic gardens, wind turbines and solar collectors. The underlevels were large mined caverns and geothermal plants.
In order to find new raw materials and reduce the constraints of overpopulation, it was either war with a world that still vastly outnumbered them, or seek other planets and asteroids to mine. This was not without political conflict within and outside the Nation.
