The insects were the first myn to hear the call of silicon.  It vibrated the soil beneath them until they strove it out.  Uncovering large caverns, these crystals were nutured and left to grow.  Farming these natural mines became a task for another worker caste.  The clipped crystals were issued to individuals to cast spells.  Most commonly they were used for building, a single quartz point used to cast a structural point.
