Mecenasnuro

Overview

The Mecenasnuro are a technologically advanced Nation that is restricted to the isle of Mecena.  Magically they are less skilled, but their science and machines are ahead of the continents.  They consider themselves separate from the rest of the planet, on the basis of their breeding culture and mental focus.  They are a merit-based society, and each individual's worth is largely judged by their intellectual and mathematical prowess.  The island is densely populated, a city covers its entire surface, and is ~4% of the total Shashnian population.  Medical technology is used to supplement a lessened resistance to disease and inheritable genetic pathologies.  Although mostly self-sufficient, trade with external nations is for manufactured goods and science.  International relations are amiable and of mutual respect.

History

The Mecenasnuro are descended from tribes all over the planet of Shashnia that carried one attribute in common, tribes/villages having political views that were still marginalized after the Evolution war.  At the end of the war there was consensus votes within the Global Council that breeding measures were acceptable, populations of myn had upper functional limits, and these limits should be determined through estimates of sustainability.

Eugenics is an emotionally loaded issue, and despite consensus, some vehemently opposed these controls.  Overpopulation was theoretically known, but the effects of over-exploitation were not widely seen in the days of the split.  Some also held the opinion that Myn were superior to other forms of life, and that achieving a sustainable balance by sacrificing resources to nonsentient animals was an incredible waste.  The name Mecenasnuro means boldly stubborn, and at first applied to all outcast nations that would not follow the decrees of the global council.  Over time the Mecenasnuro were forced out of the lands by the majority of the Shashnimyn people, as they disagreed with their use of the environment and steadily growing populations.  The concern of war from these growing factions and plain persecution varied from place to place.  The opinions of these years varies on the side you read the history from, the refugee Mecena or the dominant Shashnimyn, who largely wished to protect their planet.

The outcast nations of all beliefs and locations at this point began to band together.  As they were displaced from their lands, they moved to less habitable areas, the harshest of mountains, depths of the deserts and the expanses of oceans.  Refugee tribes met and often joined.  Within time, the refugee nations intermixed mostly with their own and began to see themselves as a single nation.  They wore their name with pride, and continued to affirm their beliefs as correct.  This move was made to legitimize their power to have consolidated representatives in the global council so that they might find some reprieve.  Like other nations, the Mecena established law and rules of citizenship.  This took decades to iron out, in which they found conflict within themselves and the growing pressure of the Shashnimyn as their numbers rose.  They conquered islands so that at least they would have some place to call home.

This act of war finally forced the issue, and in year ____, the Mecena had a delegation accepted into the global council and were recognized as a sovereign nation.  The conditions upon this was that they would not expand their borders without the consent of the rest of the world, and that they had their own laws that would apply to all their people, but were encouraged to share the global rules of citizenship as much as possible.  This divided the very diverse Mecena, and it split into chaos.  The outcast nations that wanted no laws (since Mecena law was not really strictly enforced with them scattered across the globe), refused to accept these conditions.  This conflict started many small scale wars as the outcasts lashed out, Mecena in the agreement tried to oppose them, and the Shashnimyn tried to defend their borders and aid those who honoured the Council.

The next meeting of the Global Council affirmed that this could not continue, and the Mecenasnuro must relocate into a single nation if they were to continue.  This caused great uproar, and the public of both sides disagreed with the practicality.  Nobody wanted to leave their home.  Where would the Mecenasnuro go, and where would the Shashnimyn move to?  Generations of history would be displaced.  The talk of full out war was tabled, emotions were high.  The JabayMudah and the Dual were asked for their votes in the matter, which is rare.  Both of these prefer only to advise the matter absed upon their wisdom, rather than trying to convince.  Their power is well beyond any individual or group of Myn, so they do not wish to destabilize the governmental process.  However, it seemed like there was no other choice in this matter.

On the evening they were to speak, they were not at the commencement of the council meeting, and a rage broke out.  Here they had been fighting for months for an answer, and the best counsel refused to come.  Within the hour, the great doors to the chamber blew open, space popped and a great blizzard blew out.  As the snow and ice settled to literally chill out the assembly, three figures became visible, heavily cloaked and strangely armoured.  The Jabaymudah disrobed and the Dual merely sat down in their thrones where they arrived.

"We apologize for the haste with which We arrived.  We have travelled farther than any Myn ever has to seek an answer to this question.  We have just been..." a glance to the Dual was met with nods "On a distant frozen moon which may hold the knowledge you seek"

Murmurs and gasps from otherwise polite Council members were ignored, and he continued "We sought through time to see what would bring peace between all Nations.  On many paths there is death, not just of some, but extinction of the entire species.  We know now that this is a grave danger.  We, All Shashnimyn, Red, White, Animal Nations and the new Mecenasnuro are needed in the future for something greater than any of us.  We will always have disagreements, such is the nature of diversity.  But down many roads lies oblivion."

"Simply stated, if the Mecenasnuro are not given a land of their own, they will be destroyed by conflict, or their culture will be absorbed and lost.  There are gifts your perceptions will give us that marvelled even Us" He said looking at the leader of the Mecenasnuro.

"Those dislocated will be disappointed, naturally.  We suggest that they be placed in the areas the Mecenasnuro have now conquered, and work together to make the mutual transportation easier.  We will now leave you to the details."  The Jabaymudah bowed deeply to the Council, and then knelt at the side of Life.

Death then rose to speak, his frail form betrayed by the power of His voice that shook into the very soul of each representative.  "I cannot stress enough the words of the Chosen.  The consequences of a Mecenasnuro extinction may destroy Our beloved Shashnia, and endanger the Galaxy".  Louder gasps of surprise were followed by yelled questions.

Life then stood, Her tender voice casting silence among the rabble "We are a beautiful planet, let Us proceed in the way of Love for All and we shall persevere.  We must go now to investigate the details of our findings further" And to an open mouthed room, the three of them turned and walked through a portal onto a shining plateau with stars in the night sky"

Presently, the isle of Mecena is densely populated.  Their population is still outnumbered by the Shashnimyn 20:1, but they produce many novel inventions and manufactured goods in exchange for raw materials and foodstuffs beyond their productions.  The aptitude of magic on Mecena seems to be dwindling, as use of technology is valued and ubiquitous.

The outcast nations ignored all rulings and continue to be lawless brigands, unrespected by the Shashnimyn Nations and the Mecenasnuro alike.  Considered selfish barbarians as a whole, even if personal relations, truces and agreements are common.
