The Founding War

Some 4000 years ago, the world was being torn apart by powerful feuds

Soon after the majority of Shashnimyn civilizations had achieved literacy, a powerful inter-dimensional being came to Shashnia. It had no memory of its past and had fragmented into an entire pantheon of godlings that physically resembled the Shashnimyn. For a long time the Shashnimyn did not recognize that these beings were not of their own kind. They thought of them as exceptional individuals that had somehow mastered the prevalent forms of passive magic and turned them into active and potent forces. The Shashnimyn rallied around these heroes, seeking leadership and knowledge from their power. There was much talk within the groups about how the power could be used to bring upon a new age in the Shashnian history through magic.

The personality fragments of interdimensional being were not well-defined as individuals but each grew rapidly through learning the behaviour and culture of those who flocked to them. Soon the godling heroes and deities were plotting for power, engaging in affairs of love, lust and envy; starting conflicts with such fervor that might make Dionyses blush. Eventually all citizens of the world were part of one or other of the gods factions, either for personal conquest or as protection from others. Although completely unintentional on the part of the interdimensional being, the entire world was pitted against each other.

The division of the factions esclated until violent conflict came. The war dragged on for nearly fifty years, any talks of peace were consistently overturned as a result of some atrocious act on behalf of the factions, or more often, interfering godlings.  It became a feudal system with every faction fighting for their own rule.

How the Fouding War Ended

The interdimensional being finally recognized the nature of its own existence.  Two leaders had shown strength above all others, but alliances shifted so much they could not take power consistently.  The sides evened out and the two most powerful armies met in battle.  One, a dark mage of lore and control over all the elements.  The other a fierce warrior woman, able to cut through armies with her two blades.  The weather was foul, the mud thick, and became thicker with blood.  Of all the stories of ancient battles, this was one of the most bloody.  The two great rules struck each other down simultaneously with opposing spells, and were rushed back to their camps.  The battle continued through the night.

The warrior woman recovered first, speaking in a daze to her advisors.  "Take my child to our opponent, if he sees her this war will be over"

Confused they asked "What child you are speaking of?  You have lain with no myn since (a former mistress killed)"

"She is within me, promise me that you will do this"

"Yes... yes, we will do as you desire.  But our armies will not survive until the child is born?  How are we to win?"

"If the child lives to see him, then we cannot lose" and with that, she fell dead and her body quickly dissolved into mist.

Within her armour lay a newborn girl.  The strongest warriors of the army fought their way through to the camp of the enemy, the entire strategy of the army to allow this spearhead through.  Caught unaware and shocked with magic and surprise, the enemy stopped engaging them deep behind the lines of the front.  As they walked into the camp, the powerful mage walked out with his advisors to meet them.

"What message is this that can make you all walk to your deaths with no fear after past words have done nothing?  If you are as fools as you act, your deaths will be the worst of all history."  He paused for a reply, but words never came.

The child was revealed to him and offered within his arms.  He stared into her eyes, then fell to his knees.  His opponents rushed back to be held by guards, and his advisors ran forward, blocked by an invisible shield.  The mage put the child down and began to sob, covering his face with his hands.  They both began to glow and the child grew up to a young woman before their eyes, her belly filling as a womyn carrying child near the end of term.  Her white, graceful form, knealt down and gently took the hands of the sorceror.  His face had wizzened to show years of aging, and he hobbled to his feet with great age.  He turned to face his advisors, who had been ordering the shield attacked.

"Calm my friends, there is no more reason to fight.

You have all served honourably, please let it end...

We are sorry, we didn't know."

The two then disappeared...

It had realized its soul was fragmented into all of the personalities of the pantheon and that it had been committing incestuous self-mutilation and drama the whole time, at the expense of the many Shashnimyn who had died during the conflicts.  Appalled, every single member of the pantheon from the primary two down to the most minor of deities, disappeared.

The war had a minor lull, as all were shocked and disorganized from losing their leaders and idols.  Soon, those who had the strongest aspirations for power and greed quickly took advantage of the confusion and the war rose up again. The interdimensional being still had no memory of its past, but it knew its potential and its current stte. Realizing that it had only learned one side of the Shashnimyn culture since it had arrived, it dispersed among the world its pantheon of personalities again.

This time they went in disguise, practiced no great feats of power and preached love and respect as it tried to learn as much as it could. Soon each member of the pantheon had been revealed.  Warlords begged them to aid their conquests.  They refused to interfere with anyone's life, even though the interdimensional being could see far enough into the future to predict any outcome. But the war continued.

The interdimensional being devised a plan to correct the error that it had made starting the war.  The members of the pantheon sought out all the brilliant philosophers, scientists and librarians (who had gone into hiding so that their knowledge would not be used by the warlords).  These myn and the entire pantheon met at the southern pole, far from any civilization.  They discussed the future of the world and what would be ideal. The members of the pantheon refused to offer ideas or comments and acted only as catylsts to get the intellectuals to interact and to provide protection and comfort from the environment.  The conference lasted for two years, in which time the testimonials and hearing from citizens (and even the occasional kidnapped warlord) were solicited and assessed.

The outcome of this conference was an incredible tome, called the Founding Book.  This book was full of political and economic theory and provided abstract rules and formulas to decide any conflict or difficult situation.  Additionally, it contained a life philosophy that defined how one could be the ultimate 'good person', to oneself, to one's neighbours and the universe.

Most importantly, it contained a theorectical plan to implement all of the procedures in the book successfully over a period of 2000 years.  The intellectuals and the pantheon then returned to the world and began to disseminate the first stages of their plan.

The planning fit seamlessly into reality and a world wide communist revolution occurred. Many years later, in a world of relative peace, all of the survivors of the founding war had passed on, all except the pantheon, who still wandered the world and committed the occasional miracle. The idea that they actually were gods spread. The interdimensional being dissappeared almost entirely, not wishing to be worshipped or to replace the nature-based religions of the Shashnimyn heritage. The pantheon now exists as spectators, interfering only when the future of Shashnia is at stake.

The individual memebers of the pantheon often interact with the mortals, acting like travelling, explorers or bards and enjoying the company of small towns or intense discussions with the intellectuals. Their identities, however, are rarely revealed. However, just enough occurrences of discovery keep their memory current and has caused all to waelcome warmly any traveller or random guest. After all, you never know. Acts of kindness and love are the main miracles ever performed, and often no more than having someone support another in a time of need. They have the tendency to be where they are needed.

Microscope RPG

This history is mostly incomplete. There is a lot of undescribed time that is available to play within.

If you wish to play a game of Microscope in this Era, read the page thoroughly to ensure the text written here is kept consistent for future or past events. You may insert the bookends to history between any existing material, but if your material includes history that has already been written on the wiki, you must ensure that your play does not contradict what already exists. There is lots of room in the world, so parallel histories on different continents are an easy way to keep from complicating other player groups plots.
