You stir from sleep as you feel the dawn approaching. The clouds are beginning to glow over the horizon. Stretching your paw out slowly, pushing your claws out and then pulling your legs up to the mossy branch, you leap down silently to the ground. There is little movement in sight as you step out into the open. A few small birds flit by, late for their dawn chorus. Sniffing the air, there is no trace of the Gump rat scent, no early breakfast this morning. But that's olay, your belly is still quite full from the feast of avocados and your cache is only a day away.
Despite the lack of gump rats, you decide to head down to the water anyways. The water is still, reflecting the warm colours of the morning till it ripples in joy from your tongue. A large blue fish swims up to the surface to investigate, perhaps thinking a very large bug was struggling. When it sees you, it sticks out its own tongue in a mockery of you and darts off.
Your plan for the day was to head to the waterfall, but in between you are a few kilometers of swamp. Instead of the normal path, you thought you'd climb to the ridge above and descend alongside the river. Within a short while, you've made it half way up the ridge, but then you stop because something is glowing in the gravel beneath your feet.
You found a crystal!
