Rune Magic is the use of symbols to cast make. These symbols can take the form of gestures, written or engraved. Typically, the more permanent the symbol, the more powerful the spell results.

Runes are most common on a flat surface where they can cast a spell upon those who read them, or affect an area nearby as long as they remain intact.  For example, carved into the face of the wall, even obscured by moss they could enchant the barrier for more strength.  Runes written on either pole of a gate could block the path from some creatures and not others.  Demon gates are often closed this way if they cannot be sealed, to prevent those not powerful enough to possibly survive pass in, and to not let those out which have not first gone in.

Many runes are based upon aspects of sacred geometry and the natural patterns of magic-energy movements.
