The Factory over the River

There is an elevated building on stilts which stradles a river section. The river bed beneath the building is made of stone that is deeply etched with a diamond-like pattern. The diamond grid is to allow water to flow through to the machinery beneath which is a form of water-power generation machine.

The whole factory is mostly automated, but requires beings to monitor levels and switch things around in order to make anything more than minimal efficiency. The factory appears to be some sort of food processing plant.

It seems to be abandoned

With further exploration the party can find a lone individual hidden there. This individual is of the insect caste and seems to be going through some sort of withdrawal. It pleads with the characters to help it find it's dietary supplement, the same which is produced at the factory.

spoiler

Need a hook to make the characters want to investigate the factory and what it is producing. The diet is magically enchanted and contains a small amount of myn blood. The factory was run by a demon in disguise who promised health and strength to an insect community in return for running his factory. He would kidnap the occasional myn and feed them to his machines which in turn fed them to his workers. He was trying to inspire bloodlust into them so that he could seize and entire village and breed an even greater army.

The individual that the party found is different somehow, not as fully seized by the spell. This individual could be triggered to attack them unwillingly if they are given too much of the 'food'. The players might try to warn nearby villages of the impending attack or otherwise prevent it from happening.

There would be a point where they would know that other individuals are in great peril. If they choose to abandon the quest at this point, they gain apathy points... or something that affects their relations with NPCs. If they abandon before a crucial point where they know what they could've done, they are not given any fault.

Comment test, comment test.
This idea would be neat if it could feel exactly as it did in the dream that inspired it. However, it's still got potential. Needs tie-in to Insecta page and River folk page
