Economic and policy decisions are made on long term thinking taking into accounts the needs and benefits each decision will have on all levels of society, from the environment, to distant trades, to the directly employed and profiting.  All major decisions must demonstrate system theory modelling and positive longterm changes for closed loops.  Since some of the long term effects cannot be immediately assessed, there is a prototyping system, allowing municipalities or Nations to test out technology or legislation over an extended period of time.  This system (in addition to highly diverse but localized genetic dissimilarity) makes for a patchwork social landscape, with adjacent Nations being quite different.

Basic summary of the economy.

At first approach, it may not seem as if there is a lot of business as we know it.  Everyone in a town has free access to food, is provided shelter and barters for specialty items they do not share.  For the most part, places are communal.  Basic needs are considered an essential right, and provided openly even to guests in the town (though guests must agree to an exchange contract to be welcomed).  For assymetric trades requiring a contract, the currency is payable through the town or Nation.

Decisions which will have long term effects are by law required to err on the side of caution; to underestimate sustainable yields, etc.  The results of over-utilizing a system can be long-term, and the accrued damage is much more than the potential short term gain by risking.  As such, ecosystem services are well-described for systems and include valuation for intangible resources such as: magick regeneration, inspiration, ecosystem stability, etc.

The policy of caution is relatively well-respected due to a historical self-destruct of an origin of Shashnimyn agriculture and society.  Nations which are perceived to be over-harvesting, often face restricted trade agreements with others, requiring promises of mediation.  International difficulties can result in reduced tax return from the global council.

How are economic situations valued?

The total benefits of actions, trades, goods are considered.  In this way, myn who work to benefit other myn are recognized much more than in our system, where economic payback goes first to those able to accrue higher economic gains.  The Shashnimyn system, which is based upon producing actual positive momentum, works surprisingly well, and requires less complications than the human system, that seems to aim to grow and cheat beyond the benefit of all.

In Shashnia, some of the highest "paid" individuals are those that better the lives of a large amount of myns.  This may be by a scientific breakthrough easing some public strain, or even prevention of a war, famine, aid relief, etc.  Each myn is entitled to gift an economic vote to however many individuals they like, based upon how much that myn has benefitted their life (usually without asking for recompense).  These gifts translate into payments paid out of regional pools.  The regional pools are accrued through taxation, and taxation is also the source to provide the basic needs and infrastructure of the region.  Votes are also available in a different forum to promote infrastructure projects, business funding and other governmental spendings.

Gifting

The gifting is an interesting quirk of the Shashnimyn economy, but it works incredibly well, as it encourages all myn to try and benefit others, while also recognizing with gratitude the actions of others.  The gifting votes are not limited, which means that any myn can use as many votes as they desire.  This is not unstable in calculation as it might seem, as each inidividual's (personal ID/handheld computer/crystal net account) tracks the number of votes given and standardizes their distribution before sending the votes to accrue in the central system and be rewarded back to the receiving individual.

The levels of gifting correspond to the level of emotional investment the myn had in receiving.  They vary from "I am willing to do a favour for this myn", "this changed my life", "that was good", "that was bad", "I am deeply insulted".  By building a distribution and standardizing, individuals that tend to be hyperbolic are moderated, and those who praise reservedly can make their voice count when moved.  This typically encourages generosity, as myn will dispense basic positive votes quite freely as encouragement.
