Social conditions of hunting
Hunting has been a respected tradition for a very long time. This is due to the imbalance that a community can cause when its hunting desires exceeds its need or the environment in which it lives.
Hunting is the preferred source of meat, but when it is needed in quantities which cannot be sustained animal husbandry is necessary.
Hunting is presently regulated based upon estimates of the populations nearby, the needs of the community and spiritual or animal factors.
There is a general quota of individuals from any species which can be hunted. The prey usually comes from non-myn species. If it is from a myn species it is generally done against their will (unfriendly inter-community relations) or by a voluntary basis (which takes the form of individuals agreeing to engage in a self-sacrificial sport hunt).
The quota is often aligned to the population growth cycles, with prey species changing annually. Permits for hunting can be obtained in the community. Prey which has been hunted outside of permit cannot be sold in town and poached materials are avoided by other law-abiding communities. When hunted material is brought to town, it is blessed/marked by a spiritual leader. Unblessed items can be sensed, thus making poaching more transparent.
Individuals outside of communities can hunt for their own personal use but will need to seek blessing if they want reasonable transactions on rare or valuable trade items gained from this hunt. They will need to say where it was hunted from. If they lie, the community has no direct way of knowing, but it will decrease their honour.
