In some ways Shashnanii technology exceeds Mankind, but in other ways it does not. At first glance, one would be reasonable to assume that the Shashnimyn are at a "high fantasy" state of technological advancement, but it is not exactly true. While they do have many technologies that remain medieval in appearance, and the use of magic as an everyday tool, there are others which are convergent to our own modern age. The degree to which they incorporate information technology and computing is beginning to compare to our own, and they are also faced with issues of transhumanism and a global information age.
Examples
Some of the most striking examples of differences in technology are:
The Combustion Engine
internal combustion engine
- is not used in Shasnia outside of controlled, experimental conditions; it is too wasteful a reaction process for most uses. The amount of heat generated is often lost and the reaction is not efficient in terms of detrimental side products. On top of this, there is an inherent spirit energy contained in fossil fuels which is too potent to just burn up in one lifetime. This energy was long sensed by the shamans and diviners, but has now been empirically verified by the engineers through an abnormal increase of the incidence of magical disasters in the presence of oil combustion devices.
However! Steam devices still abound, and the production of heat is essential to survival in cold environments and the production of energy. Fire is seen as a negative symbol anyways. Digestion engines are the functional equivalent. Alcohol and biofuel engines exist, often supplied by the Termita
They have GPS-type technology, using the crystal towers.
