wurmspawn

Page history last edited by 1nfinite zer0 13 years ago

The story of wurmspawn is one of a myn who lusted for power, and gained it in return for an act of evil.  This act turned him from evil and his power consumes him, while he walks the planet fighting his unshakable remorse.  In the end he has done more good than bad, but lives in self-imposed sorrow.

The name comes from how he rematerialized his body from a vat of demonic centipede/wurms.  He's a bit of an anti hero; made a deal with a powerful demon for power and then broke his mind free again only to turn on the demons as one of their most powerful enemies.  He now walks the planet with endless guilt for his past atrocities but tries to do good to overcome them.

Character traits

Somewhat depressed, self-deprecating, full of guilt, feels like he has no hand in the reality that's been created for him, some resentment against the Dual, but still of unswerving loyalty to the old religions. A loner, but still acting out his desire to help others and defeat evil. Travels around the planet hunting Demons, breaking curses and trying to alleviate conflict. A compassionate individual, but shy and distances himself from friendship. Many care for him, but he does not want to get attached, and moves on.

"Wake up.  Focus on the sound of my voice.  You are not dead.  The master demon has succeeded in luring you into his trap.  Your body is essentially obliterated, but its final fate not yet decided.  You are a wandering soul, not bound for the core of the planet for reincarnation, nor are you lost in the depths of eternal nothingness.  His intent was to banish you to distant dimensions, where you would be lost completely to us and no longer able to affect his plans.  We have prevented this from happening, but your future is still not going to be easy.  It has taken a lot of strength and timing but we have sent your soul someplace friendly.  We will be back as soon as we can to explain more, there are some things that need doing here and the stars have to be right to help your return.  Enjoy your new body, and try not to die."

"I am not your pawn that you can move about as you please."

"You don't have as much choice as you appear to.  Your fate was decided long ago when you chose to fall."

"I need no reminder of the weight of my mistake."

"Perhaps you do... you do not seem to have dealt with your guilt."

"You can see the future, what must I do to feel normal again?"

"Telling you won't have the finality of your experiences.  There is no easy way out in life."

"Then what would you have me do next?"

He was an above average child.  Ever curious, learned new subjects quickly.  Had no troubles achieving at most anything he tried.  His only limitations was that he was physically frail.  He could not take part in any sort of rough game or competition without quickly tiring.

He sometimes sometimes felt disatisfied, as if life was going to easily for him and he was not challenged except where he felt his weakness could not be conquered.

---

His mind became unwrestled from sleep.  Listening to the shape of the house there was a presence not supposed to be there.  He sliped from bed grabbed his sword and went to his door overlooking the stairs.  There was a slight breeze making the tossing curtains project magic carpets onto a floor they could not escape.  He surmised that the invader was in the living room.  With a leap across to the far wall he stopped his motion with a quiet cushion spell and held still on the bottom of the stairs for a moment.

He could not hear anything.  Surely an intruder would be searching for something.  Unless he had been heard and the other was standing silent.  What if there were no one at all?  At this point he had to run swiftly into the next room, a figure was standing across the room looking through the opposite door, posed ready for a strike.  Another leap and his left foot planted, sword came up around to the throat and he paused waiting for his intruder to realize he was too late.

"I've been standing here for 13 minutes." The voice answered cooly.

"well, at least I heard you this time"

After a battle as a Demon

Individuals have submitted themselves to the Gods, to act as an avatar. But too many times is a character willing but not of pure enough heart that Demons come in.

Wurmspawn wanted power, he wanted all of it. He wanted to move cities, to travel the watercourses, improve the supply flow of many industries, to fight powerful Monsters and Menaces. He was good, but not good enough.
He fell to the lure of Demon power, and tried to use it for good.
But slipped up for selfish interests, and eventually the power took hold.
Now he has reawoken from rage and wants out.

They left the battlefield, flattened and red.
The hike back to the war camp took a day. But it was ground already cleared.
When he reached his tent, Wurmspawn slumped into his hammock and let the armour fall off his body. A complete exhaustion he felt in his head. It was like waking up after you'd been given a concussion. He been submitting his entire being to this life of conquer and deception. He was an apprentice hero of high standing, but treated like a General. His rise through the ranks since inception were astounding and the Master Demon's forces were glad to have such a barbaric powerhouse.

Now he realizes how strong a hold was had upon him, that his original willing soul was starting to get clouded off. But he'd awoken and now there was no trace of Evil within him he hadn't started with. He could still act in the manner before his awakening, his body and mind having still been working and keeping skills. He just lay there recovering for hours, until he was summoned to report to the General.

The poles of the tents shone white in the moonlight. They'd been grown from bone and had a fine porous pattern that made the diffuse shadows seem odd shades of colour. "What happened in that town?" The General had barely waited for Wurmspawn to enter the tent.
"There were some powerful individuals, some managed to hold us off while they evacuated a third of the village. The rest lies in ruins."
"You were challenged?"
"No, why do you ask?"
"The Observers lost track of you as you went on a rampage alone. None fought within your distance and in the chaos could not sense what happened. Then you have returned and act wounded yet have not checked in with the enchanters."
"I'm not badly hurt, only this remains to be healed" Wurmspawn pulled aside his cloak to reveal a large gash across a large swath of his ribs. It was still a red thick scab, laced over with tendon stitches grown over.
"You will submit to a search for enchantments or blessings immediately." The General turned away and Wurmspawn knew he was dismissed.
"Of course my Lord"

He reached the enchanter's tent momentarily, bright white with stacks of powders, crystals, vials and herbs lining the impecable shelves. Lizard familiars darted around acting as extra hands. One whistled to announce his presence. A novice enchanter walked out from behind the curtains.

Adventures

Wurmspawn in dreamland

the sun awoke him. heating his body from cold like the lizards near him on the rocky plateaus of a gorge vista.

the light rose very abruptly over the far side, since he was already below the top. its coming was marked less by the glow above and more the animals and vines awakening before to move into the best spaces.

he sensed his body even as the rays melted into his eyelids. he was sprawled out, arms out to the sides and his legs hanging down. wondering if he fell after he blacked out, wurmspawn opened his eyes.

the sky poured in, welcoming blues streaked with yellow cirrus and one algal colony among the nimbus. the horizon stretched three sides around him, he was straddled on an exposed outcrop. chasms forked off into the distance.

>turning your head to look down, you see you are close to a vertical drop on one side. what do you do (wdy)?

<topic = stuck on a cliff>

1.look on the other side=The other side of the outcrop is just as steep. As you look down the wind sweeps up and brings scent of a forest.

2.sit up= The gorge stretches out around you. As you look down the wind sweeps up and brings scent of a forest.

3.is there a way out=The rocks go up in layers behind you, but steeply on the other sides down to some scrubs that misted forests are beyond.

4.go up=roll for climb, success a, fail b

4a.+2 points, made it on your first try+c

4b.+1pts, you slip but catch your balance as your foot goes.+c

4c.The outcrop opens up into a yard sized plateau with a few plants but mostly flat rock. Behind, the walls of the gorge are nearly shear up to the sky. Climb up 6, Stay on plateau 7

5.go down=roll for impact brace, success a, fail b

5a.+3pts, You slide down the slopes, layers of coloured rock flashing by your head. Your feet lose purchase as you slide off a cliff into a drop. Before you know it you punch through the leaves. Instinct helps you grab the branches to break your fall. Boughs catch you and droop you to the ground.

5b.+1pts, You slide down the slopes, layers of coloured rock flashing by your head. Your feet lose purchase as you slide off a cliff into a drop. Within an instant you're crashing through boughs of leaves and branches snapping, then are hurled against a thicket and ram into the ground. Unbroken but badly bruised you pull yourself out of the tangle.

6.It's a very difficult climb and you're not sure you can make it. try anyways>a, stay>7, go down>8

6a.1d10*10 for m in height, then roll under that to roll again. if the 2nd roll is less than the first, add the m height to the total and continue until their is a failure. if the 2nd roll is higher than the first, you fall from your current height. The cliff is roughly 1000m. fail>b

b.1d2 damage per 10m. You fall and take damage. Try again? a, no>7

7.You decide that you should stay at this level until you've thought about the situation. You are up on a cliff, but last you remember you were in confrontation with ... someone, who? The memory seems out of reach, as if from a dream evaporating from waking. But it wasn't a dream, is this or did I get teleported here? If it was real, it was very convincing. The heat and hardness of the landscape were so tangible and the experience full but without surrealness or blur.
